The DGA rolled out the red carpet, and a frenzied paparazzi jockeyed for position three-deep shoulder-to-shoulder last night, as a smattering of high-profile Film & TV celebrities paraded to their seats at the tony premiere of "Shanghai Calling".
Security was tight!
Under the watchful (discreet) eye of a posse of security guards hovering on the sidelines, well-heeled guests sipped on exotic cocktails, nibbled on delectable designer sweets (by cercle sucre, Curbside Cravings, and Tasty Clouds), and chatted each other up non-stop.
There was quite a buzz in the air alright!
The other day I reported in a post that a handful of Asian American actors were landing plum roles in the mainstream, Tattler readers may recall.

Last night, that was one of the subjects on every one's mind.
"We used to be cast in stereotypical roles, but now casting is wide open," one actress noted in so many words.
"People want to see Asian faces up on the screen," piped up another.
Some, like Alan Ruck (Shanghai Calling; Ferris Beuller's Day Off), were excited about major changes in China of late, which have been transforming the film industry.
"There will be a lot more co-productions," he noted to an inquisitive press corp which hung on every word.
The director of "Shanghai Calling" - Daniel Hsia - was beaming.
"When I came to Los Angeles ten years ago, it was a struggle. To be screening my film tonight at the DGA is a dream come true. I have to thank VC Communications (who sponsor the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival each year) for their support."
Bill Paxton (Titantic) - who is starring in "Shanghai Calling" - was low-key and down-to-earth when he sauntered through the door in casual attire.
But, once he stepped onto the red carpet, he lit up and charmed everyone within shouting distance.
In fact, he literally wowed the paparazzi and guests alike, as he posed for posterity in the glare of the spotlight.
Bai Ling - who wasn't initially acknowledged as a potential show - strode in and just-about stole the glittering show.
Uh-huh!
Ravishing! Exotic! Sexy!
Tattler readers may recall that Ms. Ling has been featured on this site on many an occasion in the past.
From my perspective - the sensual beauty - is a lot more calm and serene these days, though.
Eliza Coupe was a stand-out, too, in an exquisite designer gown which flattered her striking features.
So photogenic, that gal (very pretty, too).
Sean Gallagher (Shanghai Calling), Brian Tee (Fast & Furious), Jodi Long (Law & Order), Joy Osmanski (Wedding Palace), and Lynn Chen were crowd-pleasers, too.
The festival runs May 10th - May 20th!
Check out my run-down of the upcoming events.
