Mitt Romney...bullying controversy swirls around Presidential hopeful! Politically-inspired plot?

The broadcast airwaves were awash all night with the sensational revelation that Mitt Romney allegedly bullied a young man when he was an eighteen-year-old senior attending an exclusive private school in Michigan.

According to the Washington Post, the Republican candidate “led a posse of students in a charge against a boy” because of the way he groomed himself.

“He can’t look like that,” Romney allegedly whispered to a friend at the time.

“That’s wrong. Just look at him!”

The post went on to accuse Romney of having “tackled the youth and pinned him to the ground" – at which point – he allegedly hacked off the lad’s “girlish” blond locks.

Because the gentleman in question succumbed to cancer a few years ago probing members of the media have been unable to verify the facts first-hand.

As handlers for the Presidential hopeful scrambled to curb damage control, Mr. Romney was inclined to tackle the accusations at first blush.

After noting that he couldn’t recall – with specific detail – the events of the “bullying” incident, he was inclined to offer up an apology.

But, on the heels of the response, he was quick to assert also that the fellow student’s sexually orientation was neither here-nor-there in any event.

“I’ll tell you,” Romney chuckled, “the thought that the fellow was homosexual was the furthest thing from our minds back in the 60’s, so that was not the case. But as to the pranks that were played back then, I don’t remember them all, but again, high school days, I did stupid things…And if anyone was hurt by that or offended, obviously I apologize for that.”

Personally, I believe Mr. Romney, though I am not an active Republican or a political supporter.

What he says is true.

In the 60’s, my generation – friends and fellow artists – experimented with bisexuality. Some turned out gay, others remained straight. No big deal!

My heart goes out to the youth of today who are bullied and beat down by their peers when they struggle to "come out" in a so-called civilized society.

Meanwhile, high-profile anti-bully supporters have jumped into the fray.

For example, Matthew Shephard’s mother (her son was murdered in 1988 because he was gay, if you recall) was quick to denounce Romney’s alleged behavior.

“While this may seem an innocent prank to some, it was an act of torment against another child for being different. We expect people we elect to leaders in the charge against bullying so that all students are afforded the right to learn and grow in an environment free of fear,” she argued vigorously.

To some, the timing on this breaking news is mighty curious.

Now that President Barack Obama has come “out” and stated his position in support of gay marriage, it appears that the issue is a political one launched by persons unknown on Washington Hill behind-the-scenes.

But, reporters are sure of one thing, it seems.

“It was not a blind item that was thrown out on the Internet. The story has been collaborated by witnesses who were there,” noted one anchor at a major news network.

Even so, some pundits are predicting that – ultimately – Mr. Romney’s bid for the Oval Office will not be affected by the scandal.

Stay posted for updates.
