Harry Hamlin…is stretching his acting chops by performing live on stage in a 99-seat theatre production of “One November Yankee” in NoHo (CA). It’s a far cry from the heady days when the seasoned pro was cast by producers bent on exploiting his hunk appeal for bedroom scenes in-between-the-sheets. Hamlin noted in a recent Los Angeles Times interview that, unlike a handful of other egotistical actors, he was actually “horribly embarrassed” when People Magazine named him the “Sexiest Man Alive”. If anything, he’s humbly paying his dues now. Break a leg, Harry.
Ang Lee…What is the secret to the director’s celluloid success? Well, I can hazard a guess. According to the filmmaker (Brokeback Mountain) the first day is pretty laid-back – and amounts to a sort-of ceremony – in fact. Cast and crew are invited to burn a little incense (to set a calm focused mood?) bang a gong (to conjure up Buddhist-style clarity?) and say a prayer (that the project will wrap without incident or the rigors of recasting?). Ultimately? “I take it easy the first day,” Lee confided to the reporter. After that? The Academy-Award winner probably becomes a real task-master, just betcha. Get along, little doggies!
Mark Wahlberg…in previews that screened at local theatres over the weekend – featuring half-naked shots of the former boy-band rapper in clips from his spanking-new feature, it's obvious that the action hero has been expending a few hours a day at the local gym breaking sweat (and busting a ball or two in the process). In his sexy youth, Marky Mark was a lean machine, if you recall. Today, judging by the buffed bod he’s boasting on screen, it appears that Wahlberg may be taking a nod from serious body-builders and getting some help bulking up from steroids. Do ‘ya think?
