Michael Phelps...singled out as Best Sports Moment of the Year!
On the heels of being named the Associated Press's Male Athlete of the year, Sports Illustrated Magazine has announced that the Olympic Champion has been also touted as the individual who paddled his way to the "Best Sports Moment of the year" in 2012.
To celebrate this historical "moment", the magazine will feature Phelps on the cover of the final issue of Sports Illustrated which will land on newsstands on Wednesday.
It is the second time the Subway spokesperson has nabbed the honor (the last occasion was in 2008).
The Sports Illustrated honor is kind-of-like a People's Choice Award.
Readers voted for the "Moment of the Year" and gave the title to Phelps for his performance at the 2012 London Olympics - where he won six medals (including four golds) - thus bringing his Olympic medal total to 22.
Phelps is the most decorated Olympian of all time, in fact.
Coming a close second in the vote count was U.S. gymnast Gabby Douglas.
Congrats, Michael!
