Sometimes when I encounter blatant stupidity (and a revolting lack of good manners) at a local cafe, it literally boggles my mind!
For example, while I was waiting for my order to be served up at Starbucks bright-and-early on Sunday morning (at the outlet across from 24-Hour Fitness in West Hollywood), I spied a middle-aged gent approach the Barista at the Starbucks counter with an simple straightforward request.
"May I have a glass of ice for my juice," he politely asked the twenty-something employee working on the busy counter.
Quick as a wink, the lad filled up the glass and handed it over to the customer.
At this juncture, the customer noted that his can of juice would not fit into the small container, which prompted him to request a larger glass.
Simple task, eh?
Instead of hopping to it, the thin-as-a-rail server snapped back at him.
"Sorry, we only give ice in a glass that size."
You don't say!
Instead of moseying off, the patron stood his ground, though.
"Is there a manager available?"
Yup, that got the kid's goat, alright.
"He's busy (how convenient, eh?). But, I'm the assistant manager. That's the glass we are instructed to place ice orders in. Sorry," he huffed back (with a bit of snarl on his lip).
Personally?
At that point, I would have probably begged off.
You can't talk reason to an idiot, after all.
But, the middle-aged "bear" was insistent.
To prove his point, he proceeded to pour the contents of the can into the glass.
"See, I still have half-a-can left."
I would have "staggered" the drink, and avoided all the fuss, but this fellow wouldn't budge.
Reluctantly, the Barista finally filled a second glass with ice and handed it over to him.
Instead of using one taller glass, the dimwit ended up using two!
Now, how practical or economical is that?
Golly!
What a lesson in futility!
In just a few minutes that Starbucks "loser" managed to destroy a positive image that Starbucks has probably taken a couple of decades (and quite a bit of moolah) to establish in the java-drinking cafe market.
Wonders never cease.
And, how was your day???
