A Taliban spokesman – Zabiullah Mujahid – has confirmed that Prince Harry was a target in a full-scale assault which took place overnight at a heavily-fortified NATO base in south Afghanistan where the heir to the throne is stationed.
The attack lasted into the wee hours of dawn and left two marines dead, according to U.S. Military sources.
The terrorist group acknowledged in no uncertain terms that it was their specific intent to eitherkill or capture or the Prince who is an Apache Helicopter pilot at the British-operated Camp Bastian.
Official word from Buckingham Palace is that the Prince is in a “secure” zone and out of harm’s way.
Fourteen Taliban fighters – who breached the base’s perimeter – were killed (and one was captured alive).
Apparently, the attack was retaliatory in nature and triggered by an amateurish anti-Islam video that went viral on YouTube last week.
In the past, the British Government has usually kept the Prince’s deployment maneuvers a secret, but – for some inexplicable reason – elected not to follow the policy when Harry flew off to his post after a wild much-publicized woolly weekend in Las Vegas.
Some Royal watchers are scratching their head in wonderment.
Was it a mistake to release the sensitive information?
