It turned out to be a true Hollywood-style premiere after an eager crew rolled out the red carpet last night for the much-anticipated screening of the big-budget feature “Alex Cross”.
Sleek limousines cruised up to the curb, A-list celebrities – including Tyler Perry and Edward Burns (stars of the film) – floated into the theatre all smiles, and the paparazzi were in a frenzy.
Excited filmgoers also jockeyed for position on the sidelines on Sunset Boulevard, anxious to capture their film crushes on celluloid as they feverishly texted pals on Twitter and Facebook.
“I’ve heard that the movie is action-packed from beginning to end,” one well-heeled gal assured ticket holders queuing up in line next to her.
In that regard, "Alex Cross" did not disappoint, you betcha!
For example, there were wild careening high-speed car chases, knock ‘em down drag-out fights, ear-splitting explosions, you name it.
A lot of bang for the buck.
The new release is stylish, slick, and amounts to quite the adrenalin-rush.
Personally, I was quite enthralled by the performance of a supporting actor who managed to conjure up quite the nasty psycho on screen (which easily matches or surpasses any of those ever fleshed out by John Malkovich).
By the way, the Cinerama Dome is the perfect venue for a movie premiere.
The spacious theatre, and plush comfortable chairs, make for a comfortable larger-than-life film outing.
Shortly after I slipped in a side door, I was delighted to spy well-groomed staff serving up free popcorn and sodas!
Classy!
At this point, a pretty young usher led me to my seat in the lower orchestra.
The theatre was all a-buzz, folks, right up ‘til the time the lights went down and "Alex Cross" roared across the screen.
When I got up to trot off for a whiz after the screening, I crossed paths with Edward Burns.
On screen, he appeared to be dwarfed by Tyler Perry (due to some of the direction - and subsequent - camera-angles).
But, in person, Mr. Burns is actually about 6’ 1” or 2.
Boy, that scruffy “cop” cleans up good.
Burns turned out in a smart well-tailored suit which he teamed with a tasteful tie (knotted correctly, by the way) and a pricey dress shirt.
In contrast, I felt a little casual in my Gold's Gym "T" shirt, designer topshirt, jeans, and aqua-blue sneakers (which screamed out across the lobby to all within eyesight).
Earlier, I spied Tyler Perry being ushered out of the “pit” by a security guard.
But, a short while later, the charismatic star was strolling around on his own
chatting up fans and posing for photographic stills.
Normally, in buddy flicks, the white “dude” plays the lead role and the black guy is the sidekick. In "Alex Ross", Edward Burns plays the loyal partner.
Well, it’s Tyler’s movie – all the way – you betcha!
I expect the film will do well at the box office.
A review will follow.
Good looking hunk (Edward Burns) plays sidekick!
Villain in Alex Cross is positively demonic!
