One of the original creators of "Your Show of Shows" - Mel Brooks - has been given the nod by the American Film Institute for a Life Achievement Award.
The hilarious funnyman is best known for his zany flicks such as Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, and The Producers.
The Producers nabbed the impresario a coveted Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, fans may recall.
Brooks adapted the screen hit for the stage and was rewarded with a remarkable 12 Tony Awards.
The talented Director (who was once-married to charming Anne Bancroft) has the rare distinction of being one of the few Hollywood heavyweights to have been honored with an Oscar, a Grammy, an Emmy, and a Tony.
I met the short stout performer on the set of "Spaceballs" year ago.
Brooks was quite the salty character (with a potty-mouth to match!) I dare say!
I also found the man to be - not only down-to-earth and likable - but kind and generous to the cast and crew as well.
Brooks will be presented with the prestigious award (a crowning achievement over a long and distinguished career) at a Gala Event on June 6th (2013) which will be broadcast on TNT.
Congrats, Mel!
