Lucky Democrats with bucks in hand are jetting in to Charlotte N.C. this week to attend the National Democratic Convention in person to back President Barack Obama in his bid for a second term in the Oval Office.
Though the mood is less giddy than it was four years ago when the relatively unknown politician swept and overwhelmed the country with his message of hope – and promise of change – the sitting President’s supporters are still loyal to the hilt for the most part and optimistic to boot!
In fact, those not able to attend the convention in person back east are tossing event parties locally to underscore and ballyhoo the point.
Just a few days ago, for example, I was invited to attend a wide-screen viewing of the much-anticipated televised broadcast on Thursday night at Shakey’s Pizza in Los Angeles (Olympic & Fairfax).
Individuals keen on the “roar” of the crowd are also invited to attend a higher-profile soiree at the Bank of America Stadium which has the capacity to hold 65,000 people strong.
According to insiders, it is important for the Dems to establish that the President’s popularity has not diminished by any stretch of the imagination. And, that he means to make good on his campaign promises.
“It’s our job as delegates to educate people politically because there are a lot of misconceptions,” one organizer lamented to the media in recent days.
And, according to Obama's staunchest supporters, the Republicans have fanned the flames.
“Yes, he (Obama) is doing what he can, but he’s also limited in what he can do. It’s really unfair to blame everything on one person.”
The charismatic appeal of Paul Ryan must be worrisome to quite a few Democrats, too.
Uh-huh!
Fasten your seat belts, folks. It’s sure to be a bumpy ride to the November election (with a scandal or two along the way, I predict).
And, bottom line, it’s going to be a squeaker at the polls a scant few weeks from now.
So, get out the vote, eh?
