Fans of the rough-and-tumble world of cowboys and steer-roping may be surprised to learn that "gay rodeo" has been ongoing in the desert oasis for over 35 years.
Uh-huh.
Vegas dudes were out-of-the-closet decades ago!
According to the organizers of a much-anticipated event next week - Out West @ the Library - the first celebration was actually conceived in Reno as a fundraiser for a local Senior Citizens Thanksgiving Dinner.
This year the presentation on May 19th will be highlighted by an insightful lecture, an exhibition of vintage gay rodeo photographs shot by Blake Little, original rodeo posters, historical programs from bygone eras, and rule books from the Nevada local scene.
Catch it if you can.
In the meantime, get along little doggie, eh?
