Jane Fonda…The inaugural “Visionary Award” will be presented to the Oscar-winning actress at the annual National Entertainment Journalism Awards by the Los Angeles Press Club. The honor singles out individuals who have used their celebrity to help others. Robert Redford – Fonda’s co-star in three major box-office hits – will be on hand at the podium to present the one-time fitness guru with the prize. By the way, the event is open to the public, and slated to be held at the Millennium Biltmore in downtown Los Angeles. The tickets are pricey, though. If ‘have an extra one, get in touch, eh?
Justin Bieber…has proven that he is not a “flash” in the pan and still popular with the “People”. The dashing heartthrob has been given the nod in four categories of the “People’s Choice Awards” to be broadcast on January 9th on CBS.
Whitney Houston…tonight there will be a GRAMMY tribute to the legendary Pop Diva on CBS (10 p.m.). A host of top musical talents are slated to perform (including Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Britney Spears, Halle Berry, and LL COOL J) in memory of “one of the greatest artists of our time”.
Matthew McConaughey…’ya got to be kidding! “Magic Mike” producers are burning up big bucks in a promotional bid to rustle up an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of a stripper in the raunchy flick. Bumping and grinding may have widespread appeal in some quarters (the tenderloin district?) but it is doubtful the Academy will be seduced into ignoring their artistic and intellectual sensibilities at the ballot box! It’ll take a miracle, not magic, to pull an Oscar out of the hat for the studly actor. Stay posted for updates.
