On Friday, when I attempted to log in to my blog at ZIMBIO, I was denied access.
A pop-up box informed me that the site was deactivated for some inexplicable reason.
On a second attempt, a Zimbio alert advised me that someone else was claiming to own “The Tattler”!
Imagine that.
Someone has obviously hi-jacked my blog (which happens to be a well-known well-travelled web site owned by moi and popular with the thronging masses and the down-trodden and the weary) at Zimbio.
I fired off an e-mail to support staff so that the hacking incident could be investigated and ultimately resolved (with the aim of reactivating the site with little or no further ado).
But, as of this date (four days later), Zimbio has not even bothered to give me the courtesy of a reply!
A couple of years ago, when google inadvertently deactivated some blogs because staff thought the sites were abandoned, technical workers immediately apologized when the issue came to their attention (and they promptly took immediate action).
But, the Zimbio support team has neglected (willfully?) to respond to my requests for an explanation.
Surprising, when you consider that whenever I published a post on The Tattler (on blogspot) Zimbio immediately uploaded the post to their site under the names of celebrities my reports focused on.
In fact, over the past two or three years, I have not only generated readers for Zimbio – but also – rustled up a lot of revenue as well.
At this point in time, it appears that Zimbio staff are not only unprofessional - but - inclined to violate blogger rights.
For example, if a site is shut-down for whatever reason (mistake, neglect, censorship, etc.) the author should be notified, allowed due process, and the right to a fair hearing on the issues.
Bottom line?
Zimbio has violated not only my basic rights (freedom of the press, for example), but also, my right – in general – to freedom of speech!
At this point, four days after-the-fact, I find their conduct highly suspicious, needless to say.
Are they discriminating against me now for some reason unknown to me?
Did I express an opinion that conflicted with their own?
For good reason, until the answers are forthcoming, I highly recommend a boycott of the Zimbio site.
I say:
Shame!
