Marilyn Monroe...Court bars Estate's exclusivity rights!

Marilyn Monroe fans – especially those who want to trade rare publicity stills of the screen siren - or rustle up some quick cash online – were obviously jumping for joy in California when the court issued a ruling in their favor in respect to exclusivity rights and the hawking of memorabilia.

According to a Federal Appeals court, administrators for the legendary superstar’s estate have no legal standing in California - and therefore - are unable to bar the sale on her “image” by collectors and entrepeneurs in the future.

For example, although Ms. Monroe owned homes in both California and New York, her handlers moved the court for an order to recognize that her legal residency was New York so they could effectively avoid paying costly estate taxes when she passed to spirit in 1962.

For good reason, the Justices subsequently ruled that the movie icon’s estate was now barred from taking advantage of a law granting posthumous rights of publicity to the famous in the State of California.

Undoubtedly, there will now be a glut of Marilyn Monroe memorabilia hitting the marketplace in coming months.
