Director Cheryl Furjanic has been chronicling Greg Louganis's remarkable journey from diving prodigy (American Hero?) to "out" gay activist and - ultimately - an aggressive spokesperson for HIV and A.I.D.S.
The four-time Olympics gold-medal winner was recently captured on film in London, for instance, where he was mentoring U.S. Divers competing in the celebrated games.
"There have been so many twist-and-turns in my life," the handsome swimmer excitedly recalled at a recent press junket.
"It's been a powerful experience."
According to the filmmakers, Louganis is ripe for the documentary which is expected to be released next year.
"Greg's story is connected to so many important moments in American History including the Olympics, the A.I.D.S. epidemic, and the gay rights movement. His return to diving, after a long absence, gave us a natural way to explore his enduring legacy," the producers noted on their Kickstarter campaign page.
