A measure Governor Jerry Brown signed into law this past week - that protects funerals - has been hailed as a step in the right direction by staunch supporters.
In the future, protesters who elect to picket a grave must be at least 300 feet from the burial proceedings or face fines of up to $1,000 or six-months in jail.
The Bill - SB 661- comes on the heels of a loud public outcry.
The restrictions are in response to the heinous conduct of members of a Kansas-based Church (!) group who have vehemently argued curbside (and on a National pulpit) that the death of soldiers is punishment for the country's tolerance of homosexuality.
"We've all been disgusted by the hateful protests at military funerals and that should now be reduced," said Senator Ted Lieu (D-Torrance) who is the bill's author.
Amen!
